Questions & Answers

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A COURSE?

To register for a course, we require a non-refundable deposit that will hold your spot in the course you want to attend.

The deposit amounts are as follows:

1 Star - $50/person

2 Star - $150/person

3 Star - $200/person

The best way to make your deposit is via Venmo to @FreediveOhana. If you want to make your deposit in a different way, just let us know.

If you end up not being able to make the course you have paid a deposit for, you can forward that deposit toward a future course within 4 months of the one you originally registered for (space permitting).

The remainder of the course payment is due by the first day of the course you are attending.

WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT DO I NEED FOR THE COURSE?

Mask

Snorkel

Fins (long blade fins recommended for 3 Star Course)

Weight belt

Full wetsuit (a full surf suit works if you do not have a freediving wetsuit)

All necessary equipment except for wetsuits can be provided free of charge.

Two piece freediving wetsuits can be rented, with limited availability.

WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE FOR AIDA 1 STAR?

We teach this class in the mornings, typically 7-11am, on the south shore (Kihei/Wailea).

WHAT IS THE TYPICAL SCHEDULE FOR AIDA 2 STAR?

We like to teach this class over three days to assure that there is enough rest time in between sessions.

This is a rough schedule for a 2 Star, with some variability depending on group size and time of year.:

Day 1: 7am-1pm Theory & Pool

Day 2: 7am-11am Ocean Session & 1pm-6pm Theory & Pool

Day 3: 7am-2pm Final Ocean Session & Exam

Our theory and pool sessions are held in Haiku and the ocean sessions are generally held off the south shore (Kihei/Wailea), depending on conditions.

HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR THE COURSE IN ADVANCE?

You will receive a course manual once you have made your deposit for the course, which you can review prior to the course.

As for physical preparation, we suggest that you come well rested, fully hydrated and ready to focus.

To practice equalization prior to the course, we recommend checking out Aharon Solomons' YouTube video on the Frenzel technique.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T MEET THE COURSE REQUIREMENTS DURING THE COURSE?

You have 1 year from the start date of your course to reach the requirements for certification.

We create regular opportunities for students to go dive and practice your skills with either us or our former students.

HOW DO I RECEIVE MY AIDA CERTIFICATION?

Once you have met all the course requirements, we will register you in the AIDA system. You will then receive an email from the AIDA organization to complete your AIDA profile, after which we will verify your certification and you will receive a certification card via email.

WHAT IS THE REFUND POLICY?

The deposit is non-refundable, but can be applied toward a future course within 4 months of the course you originally signed up for. If you have paid for the course in entirety and extenuating circumstances do not allow you to attend the course, a partial refund can be discussed.
